As Christmas approaches, Ilonggos can look forward to a steady pork supply for their festive celebrations.
Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. announced the province is steadily recovering from the devastating effects of African Swine Fever (ASF), with pork stocks stabilizing and prices declining in some areas.
“So far, based on our inventory, we are recovering from the impact of ASF,” Defensor said.
With the Christmas and New Year holidays driving increased demand for pork, the governor emphasized the importance of ongoing monitoring of pork prices across municipalities and barangays in the province.
The rise in supply has been partly attributed to the importation of live hogs from other provinces.
As of November 18, the Provincial Veterinary Office reported an average price of P343 per kilo for pork and P197 per kilo for live hogs. In some towns, pork prices have decreased to as low as P280 per kilo.
Meanwhile, the Department of Agriculture Western Visayas noted that prices for ham and pork belly in the region ranged from P330 to P350 per kilo.
