Known for its turquoise waters and white sand beaches, Boracay never fails to draw tourists with its exciting nightlife, water sports, family-friendly events, and picturesque vistas and hotels. The island offers a range of dining alternatives, wellness services, and spa retreats for visitors looking for peace and quiet.
Boracay’s reputation as a top travel destination for all types of tourists is upheld by its unique combination of luxury, adventure, and leisure. That’s why it came as no surprise that the island paradise earned another global distinction.
Boracay was named “Asia’s Leading Luxury Island Destination” at the World Travel Awards (WTA) Asia and Oceania Gala Ceremony, which took place at City of Dreams Manila in September. The accolade highlights the island’s appeal as a destination for luxury tourists looking for unique experiences as well as a party hub.
Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco recognized Boracay’s global appeal, pointing to its numerous natural attractions and hospitality services. She pointed out that Boracay’s ranking as “Asia’s Leading Luxury Island Destination” shows that it can host a variety of travelers, including luxury seekers, party animals, and families. According to Frasco, recent projects for the island include the construction of a Tourist First Aid Facility and initiatives to make Boracay a Muslim-friendly destination.
“There’s no doubt that Boracay is one of our top tourist destinations. Year after year, it continues to attract hordes of tourists from various parts of the world,” said Frasco. “It’s not just for partygoers or families, it’s also for luxury travelers who seek premium experiences. We aim to welcome all types of travelers to Boracay so that more people will be able to experience its beauty.”
The WTA also recognized the Philippines in several categories, including Asia’s Leading Beach Destination, Dive Destination, and Island Destination. Intramuros was awarded Asia’s Leading Tourist Attraction, while Cebu earned the title of Asia’s Leading Wedding Destination. The “Love the Philippines” campaign and Secretary Frasco’s leadership in tourism governance were also honored.
The Department of Tourism (DOT) has undertaken projects to improve visitor safety and inclusivity. A Hyperbaric Chamber Center was opened earlier this year, and a Tourist First Aid Facility, developed in partnership with the Department of Health, is set to open soon. The DOT has also introduced a Muslim-friendly cove in partnership with Megaworld Corporation and local stakeholders, promoting halal travel products and services.
For discerning travelers, Boracay offers upscale accommodations, fine dining, and private experiences such as helicopter rides, luxury yacht tours, and secluded beach visits. Wellness enthusiasts can enjoy premium spa treatments and yoga sessions by the beach. Romantic sunset cruises with food, drinks, and live music remain a popular choice for visitors seeking memorable moments.
