How Jazper Tiongson’s talent and passion led to a flourishing career as events host
When I think back to my early days in the media industry, one of the most vibrant personalities I encountered was Jazper Tiongson, now a go-to events host and rising content creator.
We were batchmates at a media agency soon after graduating from university in 2006, and it was clear that Jazper’s heart was set on something onstage. I often thought he was destined for an entertainment career. Watching his journey unfold over the years has been truly inspiring.
“I might have had good study habits and good genes,” Jazper smilingly answered when asked about his childhood.
Energy and drive were apparent in Jazper’s childhood. Growing up in Malolos, Bulacan, he excelled academically and was consistently at the top of his class, graduating as grade school valedictorian from La Consolacion University. But academics were just one side of the story.
Jazper was equally passionate about extracurricular activities, leading school organizations, performing on stage, and even representing his school in various competitions. Whether it was newscasting, quiz bees, journalism, or singing, Jazper embraced every opportunity to learn and grow.
Looking back on his childhood, Jazper shared, “I managed to be a ‘bibo kid’ [lively kid] back then, being at the top of my class while leading different school clubs and performing on stage for most of our school programs.” This natural inclination for public speaking and performing was harnessed over the years and set the stage for his future career.
Academic excellence
Jazper’s academic journey continued at the University of the Philippines Diliman, where he graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Broadcast Communication. Beyond his studies, he immersed himself in various organizations, serving as president of both the UP Communicators for Good Governance and UP Green Minds (environmental advocacy organization), and co-founding the UP Radio Circle.
His commitment to education and community leadership provided him with the tools to articulate ideas effectively, understand different perspectives, and connect with diverse audiences—skills that are now at the heart of his success as an events host.
“The opportunities to learn from books, people, and the dynamics of these experiences naturally paved the way for me to be articulate, empathetic, and well-equipped for hosting,” Jazper explained.
How it all began
Jazper’s journey into hosting began serendipitously during his high school years. As president of the Student Council, he was tasked with hosting the culmination of their Intramurals. The positive reactions from his audience—students, teachers, and even the Augustinian Sisters— impressed upon him something life-changing.
“The crowd reaction, plus the compliments after ‘the gig,’ sparked a great feeling. I realized this is something I’d love to explore,” Jazper recalled. From that point on, hosting opportunities began to multiply, leading him to gigs at UP Diliman and beyond.
Jazper initially pursued corporate jobs (media planning-buying and advertising sales) but recently pursued hosting and content creation full-time. What started as a school task quickly blossomed into a calling.
Navigating challenges and embracing the craft
Like any career, hosting comes with its challenges. Jazper admitted that in the early days, facing larger crowds was daunting.
“It really was about gaining more experience to master how to manage an audience and get comfortable taking the lead as a host,” he shares. Over time, he honed his skills, developing strategies to handle unforeseen issues, such as technical glitches or program delays, with poise and creativity.
Preparation is key for Jazper, who compares his process to that of an athlete. He ensures he is physically, mentally, and emotionally prepared for each event. “I appreciate being familiar with the program and the people involved beforehand,” he says. On the day of the event, his hyper-observant nature allows him to adapt seamlessly and engage the audience effectively.
A breakthrough with Queen P
One of the pivotal moments in Jazper’s career came when Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach endorsed him after witnessing his hosting skills at an event. Pia not only praised him publicly but also recommended him to Miss Universe Philippines, opening doors to some of the most prestigious hosting gigs in the country.
“Her endorsement gave me a bigger audience and allowed more people to discover my passion and talent. I’m truly grateful for people like her who are selfless in sharing the light,” Jazper heartfully shared.
For Jazper, the most rewarding aspect of his career is the connections he forms. “The friendships I forge are on top of the list,” he explained. He also enjoys the diversity of events he hosts, from energetic inter-school competitions to elegant corporate gatherings. Each event is an opportunity to learn, adapt, and bring something unique to the table.
Jazper’s ability to stand out in a competitive industry lies in his authenticity and commitment to self-improvement. “I just embrace my uniqueness. You have to see and appreciate your light first,” he emphasized. His formula for success—combining talent with good character—has earned him a reputation as not just a skilled host but also a reliable and personable collaborator.
What’s next
As Jazper looks to the future, his goals include launching a podcast, conducting workshops, and possibly venturing into music. He dreams of hosting his own travel or lifestyle show and expanding his impact through inspirational talks. Hosting Miss Universe Philippines for two consecutive years remains a career highlight, solidifying his place as one of the industry’s brightest talents.
For aspiring hosts, Jazper offered this advice: “Be yourself. Know that you don’t have to compare yourself to others because being you is already a brand in itself. Love the craft, and everything else you need will follow.”
The journey from a bright-eyed “bibo kid” to a sought-after events host is a story of passion, perseverance, and authenticity. It’s been an honor to witness Jazper’s growth, and there’s no doubt that his star will continue to shine and jazz up any event.
