Voice workshop, music therapy for enthusiasts of all ages

The Sunshine Place now offers music therapy and voice workshop

Filipinos are music lovers and there is always interest from all ages to learn how to carry a tune. 

Sunshine Place is pleased to announce that its Voice workshop is now open every Monday and Wednesday. Patricia Carpio, honors graduate of St. Scholastica College’s School of Music, conducts the by-appointment-only workshop. 

Carpio has taught voice to children and adults. She designs different lesson plans according to the student’s needs. For this workshop, the proposed lesson plan includes proper breathing, right intonation, proper support in singing, legato singing or connected singing, stage presence, and song interpretation. 

The students are taught singing while putting into practice the concepts they have learned. Each session begins with voice warm-ups. Students are consulted on their song preferences and are allowed to use videoke machine and other materials, and or equipment as an aid for lessons when necessary or needed. 

Sunshine Place also offers Music Therapy from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. by appointment. Music therapy is defined as the use of music and or musical elements to develop potentials and develop or restore functions of the individual.  It is helpful for people with dementia, limited mobility, Parkinson’s disease, anxiety disorder, depression, cancer, stroke, children with special needs, and those with terminal illnesses.

The Music Therapy session is one hour to be conducted by music therapist Cleo Toribio who has a Master of Arts in Music and major in Music Therapy. As a music therapist, she has experience working with special children, Cochlear implant case, people with chronic illnesses, and Geriatrics.
