Iloilo to donate P8-million in aid of some LGUs ravaged by earlier storms

The Iloilo Provincial Government is preparing to allocate P8-million to assist local government units (LGUs) in Luzon severely affected by recent typhoons.

According to Governor Arthur Defensor Jr., they are finalizing the selection of recipient LGUs that require the most assistance.

“Following the president’s call to remember and help typhoon victims, we immediately acted by setting aside a budget from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) fund,” said Defensor.

The aid will prioritize LGUs in areas devastated by tropical cyclones, which caused widespread destruction in northern and central Luzon earlier this year.

These typhoons brought torrential rains, strong winds, and severe flooding that displaced thousands of families, destroyed crops, and damaged infrastructure in provinces like Cagayan, Isabela, Ilocos Norte, and Abra.

Defensor emphasized that the province will focus its assistance on areas with the greatest need, noting that resources are limited and not all affected LGUs can be covered.

The provincial government is set to finalize its decision soon, demonstrating Iloilo’s solidarity and commitment to extending a helping hand to fellow Filipinos in times of calamity.
