Iloilo released financial aid to 43 local government units (LGUs) across the province to boost ongoing measures aimed at preventing and reducing dengue cases.

Governor Arthur Defensor, Jr. signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP-Iloilo) to formalize the initiative.

The funds will be allocated to purchase additional equipment and supplies necessary for dengue prevention and control efforts.

According to LMP-Iloilo Executive Vice President for Internal Affairs and Badiangan Mayor Suzette Mamon, the distribution of aid depends on the classification of each municipality.

Large municipalities will receive P300,000, middle-class municipalities will receive P200,000, and small municipalities will receive P100,000.

“The amount will be processed and released directly to the LGUs, enabling them to immediately use the funds for urgent interventions against dengue cases in their areas,” said Mamon.

The mayor assured that the funds would be swiftly disbursed to ensure the municipalities can act promptly.

“We have submitted our MOA with all the required documents. Once submitted, the Provincial Health Office (PHO) will process the request, and the funds will be released through checks directly to the municipalities,” she added.

Dengue cases in Western Visayas reached 18,056 with 42 fatalities recorded thus far.

Iloilo Province has the highest number of cases with 7,020 followed by Negros Occidental (2,864), Aklan (1,919), Capiz (1,828), Guimaras (1,446), Iloilo City (1,118), Antique (1,012), and Bacolod City (849).

The Department of Health in Western Visayas reported that 2,368 new dengue cases and 11 deaths were recorded in just one week, highlighting the urgent need for heightened response measures.
