Tuguegarao City—Following the offer by the Philippine Constructors Association (PCA) to assist in enhancing opportunities for local skilled workers, plans are afoot to vigorously push the growth of the construction industry in Cagayan province.
Tuguegarao Mayor Maila Ting-Que, in a press briefing, highlighted the PCA’s bid to extend services that would provide strong skills and knowledge for the workers, resulting in heightened in the construction industry toward nation-building.
“The contractors all over the Philippines want to somehow professionalize the construction industry. How will they be doing this, by supporting already with the help of Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) those who are working in the construction industry. PCA don’t want that the Philippines will be left behind in the building industry,” the mayor said.
Besides, the city and province must maintain strong ties with the PCA in order to successfully carry out the mandate of implementers in accordance with the set standards of various industries around the world, she added.
Cagayan Gov. Manuel Mamba said the Cagayanos excel in various fields and that every one of them will be treated as “world class” workers.
“Therefore it is time to go forward and promote the provision of skills to the workforce,” Mamba said.
The governor also emphasized the importance of proper and responsible execution, particularly in government infrastructure projects, adding that by providing workers with adequate knowledge, the quality of the projects could be improved even further, allowing them to be used efficiently, as opposed to others, which are easily destroyed.
PCA president Ronaldo Elepaño Jr. cited the association’s mission of promoting the development of the construction industry through initiatives, programs, and projects.
The PCA aims to raise awareness of the opportunities accessible to skilled professionals in the province.
As a result, they are collaborating with local governments to achieve their goal of boosting the “industry-led” and “market-driven” building industry in the country since 1945, Elepaño said.
He also said the PCA offers seminars, workshops, and training to develop the skills and knowledge of professionals in the construction industry, in partnership with the TESDA and the Commission on Higher Education.
Following the conference, the PCA presented an orientation to the visiting constructors, covering the many techniques for creating a more profitable and stable construction industry.
