A content creator went viral following her now-deleted video which showed her complaining about a pharmacist who refused to give her medicine because she didn’t have a prescription from a doctor.

Joan DV Alcudia posted the video of herself purchasing Irbesartan, a medication used for the treatment of hypertension or high blood pressure, at a branch of superstore Landers’ Capital Care Pharmacy. However, the pharmacist from the store refused to sell it to her since it was an Rx medicine or prescription medicine.

As Alcudia complained, saying that other pharmacies didn’t require a prescription for the medicine, the pharmacist explained that an Rx medicine was different from an over-the-counter (OTC) medicine and remained adamant that he would not be letting her buy the medicine.

After posting the video online, Alcudia also later on posted a photo showing that she managed to buy the medicine from a different pharmacy without a prescription.

The video received several negative comments, which praised the pharmacist as they believed he did the right thing in not giving her the medicine. Many also raised their concerns about how Alcudia was still able to buy the medicine without a prescription as it implied a prevalent yet unnoticed problem in the country’s healthcare system.

Compared to OTC medicine, which can be bought without a prescription, Rx medicine requires one to control the intake of substances that may have adverse effects should more be taken than necessary.

While the posts were already deleted, Alcudia continued to post online, complaining about the criticism she had been receiving following her posts going viral.

Landers has yet to release a statement regarding the whole situation as of writing.
