At least five demonstrators were killed in Bangladesh during violent clashes between rival student groups over quotas for coveted government jobs, police said, a day after more than 400 others were injured. Protesters are demanding an end to a quota reserved for family members of veterans who fought in Bangladesh’s war of independence in 1971, which allows them to take up to 30 percent of government jobs.
