Alternergy Holdings Corp. on Monday awarded to China Energy Engineering Group Guangdong Electric Power Design Institute Co. Ltd. (GEDI) and its local subsidiary GEDI Construction Development Corp. (GCDC) the engineering, procurement and construction contract for its 163-megawatt Alabat and Tanay wind projects.

Alternergy said it awarded the balance of plant (BOP) EPC contracts after a tender process.

The contract involves the design, engineering, supply of civil and electrical works, transport of equipment, construction and installation of the Alabat and Tanay wind projects.

“It is almost all systems go for the construction of our latest wind projects with the wind turbine supply and BOP EPC contracts already signed,” Alternergy president Gerry Magbanua said in a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange.

The Tanay wind project is Alternergy’s third wind project in Rizal province, while the Alabat wind project is its first wind project in Quezon Province.

“A very extensive and meticulous tender process was conducted for the BOP EPC contracts for the Alabat and Tanay wind projects. A great deal of consideration was taken to ensure that there will be synergies with both our supplier and contractor given our commitment and timeline under the Green Energy Auction 2 (GEA) award,” said Knud Hedeager, president of Alternergy Wind Holdings Corp., Alternergy’s sub-holding company for its wind portfolio.

GEDI is one of the top Chinese design firms and contractors present in more than 50 countries with more than 700 EPC projects worldwide.

GEDI is engaged as an EPC contractor for various wind projects in China with total capacity of more than 7,500 MW.

It is an accredited contractor of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) for various transmission projects.

“We are extremely pleased to partner with Alternergy which will boost our local presence in the Philippines. We are eager to deploy GEDI’s core strength in EPC contracting, solutions and technology, to complete the project on time with high quality with scientific organization, strict management and visionary design,” GEDI International Branch deputy general manager Bill Guo.

Alternergy’s Tanay and Alabat wind projects are awardees of the second Green Energy Auction Program 2 of the Department of Energy.

Alternergy aims to develop up to 474 MW of additional wind, solar and run-of-river hydro projects.
