TV5 launches sports channel to replace CNN PH

TV5 Network Inc. teamed up with the owners of Radio Philippines Network Inc. to launch RPTV—a new free-to-air channel offering sports, news and entertainment that will replace CNN Philippines.

Nine Media Corp., the franchise owner of CNN Philippines, shut down the latter’s operations on Jan. 31. CNN Philippines used to air on RPN’s free TV Channel 9.

RPN is co-owned by Nine Media Corp., Far East Managers and Investors Inc., Government Communications Group under the Presidential Communications Operations Office and several private stockholders.

RPTV is set to broadcast live Philippine Basketball Association games, including 3×3, D-League, and more. Additionally, viewers can anticipate coverage of other prominent sports events such as the PVL and games featuring Gilas Pilipinas, as confirmed by TV5.

The channel will also feature an entertainment lineup, including the highly-rated daily noontime show EAT…Bulaga. RPTV’s weekend programming will include various local comedy and action series and movies, concluding with Live Sports from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Apart from sports and entertainment, RPTV viewers can start their day with the popular news and public service show hosted by Ted Failon and DJ Chacha. In the afternoon, the program “Wanted Sa Radyo” addresses cases of exploitation and abuse with Senator Raffy Tulfo.

“The birth of RPTV is aligned with our commitment to elevate the standards of entertainment, sports, and public service broadcasting in the Philippines,” said TV5 president and chief executive Guido Zaballero.

RPTV is accessible on Channel 9 Analog, Channel 19 DTT, Channel 18.3 DTT, and through over 300 cable and satellite providers nationwide. It can also be streamed live via the Cignal Play OTT App.
