DTI to consumers: Buy only certified lights, fireworks

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) on Thursday reminded consumers to prioritize safety by purchasing only certified Christmas lights and fireworks as the holiday season approaches,

“To ensure a safe and worry-free celebration, we strongly encourage consumers to check the DTI’s official list of certified products before purchasing. Avoid uncertified items that pose safety hazards,” said DTI Secretary Cristina Aldeguer-Roque.

The Bureau of Philippine Standards (BPS) has published a comprehensive list of certified Christmas lights and fireworks on its website.

This includes product descriptions and details of compliant manufacturers and importers, offering a reliable guide for shoppers.

“The DTI is committed to protecting Filipino consumers. By providing easy access to these lists, we empower the public to make informed choices and prioritize safety during the holidays,” Roque said.

Certified products bear mandatory marks such as the Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) Stickers and Philippine Standards (PS) Marks, signifying compliance with rigorous safety and quality testing.

“This supports our goal of ensuring a safe and joyful Christmas under Bagong Pilipinas,” she said.

Christmas lights and fireworks are among the 109 products subject to mandatory certification under the BPS to uphold consumer safety.

The DTI-BPS, as the National Standards Body, enforces Philippine National Standards (PNS) in technical regulations to maintain the highest quality of goods in the market.
