DA chief asked to oversee BFAR bidding for over P2.1-b vessels

A lawyer asked Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. to personally supervise the upcoming bidding process at the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) for projects worth billions of pesos.

Lawyer Faye Singson also asked Tiu-Laurel to ensure a fair and impartial bidding process scheduled on Oct. 10 and 11, 2024.

The projects under Bid Reference Nos. 2024-62 and 2024-63 involve the acquisition of multi-mission offshore vessels, refrigerated cargo vessels and steel-hulled fishing vessels.

The total project budget amounts to more than P2.1 billion for the acquisition of 50-meter and 80-meter steel hull multi-mission and multi-purpose vessels which are set for bidding on Oct 10; and 23.5-meter steel hull fishing vessels, 62-footer FRP boats and fishing gears with bidding set on Oct. 11, 2024.

Singson is a former assistant prosecutor at the Office of the Ombudsman.
