IPOPHL ranks third globally for innovation

The Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) has been recognized as the third most innovative intellectual property office globally following sustained investments in digital systems and institutional capacity-building.

According to the World Trademark Review (WTR) 2026 IP Office Innovation Ranking, IPOPHL tied for third place with offices from Benelux, Japan and Thailand.

The Philippines trailed the European Union and the United Kingdom, which shared first place, and Australia, South Korea and Singapore, which shared second.

The 2026 ranking assessed more than 40 jurisdictions and marks a significant rise for IPOPHL. The office previously placed 9th in 2022 and 13th in 2024. The agency now ranks second in Asia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region. Only six Asian offices and three ASEAN offices placed in the global top 20.

IPOPHL acting director-general Nathaniel Arevalo said the strong global ranking reflects a long-term strategy of investing in end-to-end online systems, digital filing and search platforms. He said internal tools have enhanced examination quality and turnaround times.
