The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Wednesday afternoon reported that Tropical Depression “Ada” maintained its strength while decelerating over the Philippine Sea east of Mindanao.
The tropical cyclone’s center was last estimated 545 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.
It was moving west-northwestward at 10 kilometers per hour (kph) with maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 55 kph.
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 was raised over Northern Samar, Samar, Eastern Samar, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, and Surigao del Sur.
Ada will move generally northwestward over the next three days.
On the forecast track, it will pass close or make landfall over Eastern Visayas on Friday or Saturday early morning.
The tropical depression is forecast to reach tropical storm category within the next 24 hours, as it continues to gradually intensify over the Philippine Sea.
