SteelAsia Manufacturing Corp., the Philippines’ leading steel producer, marked a significant milestone on Jan. 30, 2025, with the shipment of the country’s largest steel export to date.

The 32,000-metric ton shipment of high-strength reinforcing steel worth over $19 million, or about P1.1 billion, left SteelAsia’s Davao City plant en route to a major subway project in Vancouver, Canada.

The latest export forms part of a larger order for the same project, bringing SteelAsia’s total exports for the Vancouver subway venture to 87,000 metric tons, with an estimated value of P3.2 billion.

SteelAsia chairman and chief executive Benjamin Yao expressed pride in the company’s growing reputation both locally and internationally.

“We have repeat orders from the same buyer and project, which speaks volumes about the trust placed in our reliability as a supplier and the quality of our products,” Yao said.

“This is also reflected in our strong local partnerships, with the country’s top developers continuing to choose us as their supplier of choice,” he said.

The company operates four steel mills across the Philippines, with capacity expansion currently underway.

SteelAsia is building a green steel H-beam plant in Lemery, Batangas, and is preparing to begin site development for a second such plant in Candelaria, with an investment worth P30 billion.

SteelAsia’s strategic expansion drives it commitment to meeting both local and global demand for high-quality steel products while supporting the Philippine government’s drive for industrialization and economic growth.
