The Department of Energy endorsed to the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines seven power projects for system impact study (SIS) in November.
The DOE said the endorsed projects consist of one amendment and six new applications. The SIS will determine the capacity of the power grid to accommodate additional capacities and identify necessary improvements needed such as transmission lines, transformers or substations.
It said the endorsed projects include the 60-megawatt peak Zamboanga solar project of Zamboanguita Solar Power Corp. in Negros Oriental; the 47-MW Pontevedra solar project of Upgrade Energy Philippines Inc. in Capiz; the 120-MW Fortune Lal-lo solar project of Fortune Renewable Energy Corp. in Cagayan; and the 180-MW agrovoltaic solar project of Embrace Nature 1 Corp. in South Cotabato.
Other endorsed projects are the 11.2-MW Butuan City 1 solar project of Enfinity Philippines Renewable Third Resources Inc. in Agusan del Norte; and the 187-MW Tayabas South wind energy project of CleanTech Global Renewables Inc. in Quezon.
The DOE put in place several policies to entice investors to participate in the country’s power generation industry.
These include renewable energy policies such as auctions, net metering schemes, tax incentives and an aggressive clean energy target of 35 percent renewable energy in the power mix by 2030.
“As the only emerging market in the Asia-Pacific region with all these mechanisms in place, we are paving the way for a more sustainable energy future, not only for our nation but as a model for the region,” the DOE said.
