Silliman University Medical Center (SUMC), one of the leading health institutions in the Visayas, renewed its partnership with First Gen Corp. for direct supply of renewable energy (RE) to support operations of the 300-bed tertiary hospital.
The partnership with Lopez-owned First Gen, the country’s leading producer of RE, is part of the overall drive towards sustainability of Silliman University.
The renewed supply agreement, signed on Dec. 12, 2024, entails the supply of 800 kilowatts (kW) of electricity for SUMC sourced from the Palinpinon geothermal power plant in Valencia, Negros Oriental, operated by First Gen subsidiary Energy Development Corp.
“Our partnership with First Gen has yielded substantial reduction in our electricity consumption and realized cost savings. More importantly, we are privileged to be utilizing clean power sourced from Negros which has also helped reduce our carbon footprint,” said Fredita Tan, president/administrator of Silliman University Medical Center Foundation.
SUMC initially teamed up with First Gen in 2022 for direct RE supply from the latter’s geothermal plant.
