Maynilad Water Services Inc. said it is working with the University of the Philippines (UP) to advance research on emerging pollutants in Metro Manila’s water sources and wastewater systems.
The collaboration underscores Maynilad’s commitment to ensuring the long-term safety and quality of its water services.
“Maynilad strictly complies with national water quality standards, providing safe and reliable water to our customers. This partnership allows us to anticipate future challenges by exploring advanced technologies and ensuring that our treatment systems remain robust and adaptive,” said Maynilad chief sustainability officer Roel Espiritu.
The company said that while it consistently meets the Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water, it recognizes the need to stay ahead of potential future risks.
Under the partnership, UP will conduct testing to assess unregulated pollutants that are emerging concerns globally.
The research will also help Maynilad develop advanced treatment methods like UV photolysis and advanced oxidation to tackle potential emerging contaminants.
These innovations support initiatives such as Direct Potable Reuse, which aims to improve water sustainability while maintaining the highest safety standards.
Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines, serving the west zone of the Greater Manila Area, which includes parts of Metro Manila and several cities and towns in Cavite province.
