The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) approved transmission operator National Grid Corp. of the Philippines’ P2.585-billion Capas 230 kV Substation Project.
“After due deliberation, the commission resolved to approve NGCP’s s proposed Capas 230 kV Substation Project in the instant application amounting to P2,585,715,560.39, subject to optimization during the reset process for the subsequent regulatory period, based on its actual use and usefulness and verified expenses for the optimized assets, following the procedures stated in the rules in setting the transmission wheeling rates and other relevant issuances of the Commission,” the ERC said.
The ERC said the load growth in Capas, Tarlac is expected to reach unprecedented levels due to the connection of Shin Clark Power Corp. (SCPC), the distribution utility for New Clark City (NCC), along with Tarlac Electric Cooperative I and II and Tarlac Electric Inc. (TEI).
“The proposed Capas 230 kV Substation Project aims to manage this growth and facilitate NCC’s connection to the Luzon Grid,” it said.
NGCP said it filed the application as part of its responsibility to construct, install, improve, expand and rehabilitate the nationwide transmission system and the grid.
NGCP also ensures a reliable and high-performance operation of the transmission system.
“Thus, to avoid disruption of operation and ensure continuous compliance with NGCP’s mandate under the EPIRA [Electric Power Industry Reform Act] as the transmission operator, it is imperative that the implementation of the proposed capex projects be immediately approved,” it said.
