KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia—Aboitiz Power Corp. aims to roll out its MobileAP platform to all its distribution subsidiaries and onboard a million customers, a top executive said.
It launched the AboitizPower MobileAP was in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. The app is used by its distribution utility companies — Visayan Electric, Davao Light, Cotabato Light, Subic EnerZone and Lima EnerZone — to allow customers to view their bills and payments from their mobile devices.
The app became an anchor in AboitizPower’s digitalization strategy when the group launched its “great transformation” towards becoming the Philippines’ first techglomerate.
“We want 100 percent, however fast we can. We have information campaigns. We have people in the service centers,” AboitizPower distribution utilities senior vice president and chief operating officer Anton Perdices said.
He said the app not only shows the electricity bill but also historical payment and consumption. “You get app notifications of outages, planned outages. You can pay your bill online,” he said.
“We’re hopefully going to convert everybody 100 percent, so we don’t have to print and deliver bills anymore,” he said, adding that only 65 percent to 70 percent of its customer base are registered in the app.
He said AboitizPower has a combined customer base of a million covering households, commercial and industrial.
“So having to not print one million bills, just imagine how much paper you’re saving. Having not to deliver one million bills, just imagine how much reduction in emissions from motorcycles,” he said.
“And my dream, and I tell my people, guys I really want this to happen is I can see my real-time consumption so if I’m in my house I can tell them can you turn off that appliance and can you turn off like two of the air cons to see it drop so that we really want people to be the ones in control of their utility bill right not that they’re consuming,” he said.
Perdices said the app would soon be able to react real-time when there is an outage.
