Shopee sells 3m items in first two hours of 9.9 sale

Online marketplace Shopee said Thursday registered a three-fold increase in orders compared to an average day with 3 million items sold in the first two hours of its 9.9 sale.

Shopee head Vincent Lee attributed the success to the platform’s focus on personalized content and engagement features like Shopee Video and Shopee Live.

“These results reflect not just groundbreaking numbers but Shopee’s ability to remain relevant and continue to provide an exceptional shopping experience in a fast-changing e-commerce landscape,” he said.

Lee said the strategy proved effective in adapting to the evolving e-commerce landscape.

The 9.9 sale showcased a growing preference for interactive shopping experiences. Shopee Video orders increased 6 times, with a 2-fold rise in new videos uploaded. Total video views tripled, and affiliate orders through short-form content rose 9 times.

Shopee Live also saw significant growth, with a 3.4-time uplift in orders and a 9-time increase in affiliate orders, highlighting the appeal of real-time product demonstrations and direct interaction with sellers.

Fashion was a major highlight, with shoppers enjoying 50-percent off and more on items like tops, lingerie, and jewelry. Top brands included Lovito, Crocs, INSPI and ABUBOT PH.

Other popular categories included cases and covers, skincare, home improvement, and kitchenware, showcasing the diversity of Shopee’s offerings.
