Alfamart, a minimart chain under the SM Group, opened its 2,000th store in Sta. Rosa, Laguna, marking a decade of operations.
The new location, situated in a residential area, underscores Alfamart’s commitment to improving grocery shopping access for local communities.
Alfamart chief operating officer Harvey Ong said in a statement the milestone highlights the company’s focus on serving neighborhoods with limited retail options.
“The enthusiastic reception in Balibago demonstrates the positive impact our presence can have,” Ong said.
“Alfamart sees immense value in serving underserved communities. Our 2000th store marks a pivotal milestone, and the warm reception in Balibago underscores the impact our presence can have,” he said.
Alfamart’s stores combine the convenience of a corner shop with the comprehensive offerings of a supermarket, catering to on-the-go customers with products like ready-to-cook and ready-to-eat items.
The company supports its expanding network with distribution centers in Laguna, Quezon, Cavite, Bulacan and Pampanga.
Alfamart has broadened access to essential goods across the country since opening its first store in the Philippines in June 2014, through a joint venture with Indonesia’s PT Sumber Alfaria Trijaya Tbk.
Ong reaffirmed the company’s dedication to serving residential areas, aiming to be an extension of local households’ pantries and kitchens.
“We are dedicated to providing a variety of merchandise, including fresh produce and frozen goods, precisely tailored to meet local needs,” Ong said.
The SM Group earlier announced plans to increase its expansion from 250 new stores a year to at least 400 stores.
