The Department of Energy (DOE) is considering 31 ports to support the development of around 66,000 megawatts from 92 offshore wind power projects nationwide.
DOE assistant secretary Mylene Capongcol said in a presentation during the World Clean Energy Conference that 10 ports are subject to pre-feasibility study by the Asian Development Bank.
These include the ports of Bulalacao, Tabaco, Pulupandan, SBMA, PNOC-ESB, Culasi, Iloilo, San Carlos, Bauan International and Irene.
Capongcol said the DOE streamlined environmental compliance process for OSW pre-development and exploration activities.
She said the entry of OSW would help meet the country’s 35-percent renewable energy target by 2030 and 50 percent by 2050,
“To reach the RE target, a total of 52,826 MW additional RE capacity is needed by 2040, which is almost seven times than the current level at 7,914 MW,” she said.
The Philippines has 8,417 MW of installed RE capacity, while gross generation is at 26,2678 gigawatt-hours equivalent to 22.3 percent of the generation mix.
