The Philippine Song Qing Ling Foundation held a celebration of its 20th anniversary and 6th Board of Directors induction ceremony at the East Ocean Palace Restaurant on Nov. 11, 2024.
Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian, Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Inc. (FFCCCII) president Dr. Cecilio Pedro and Philippine Song Qing Ling Foundation board chairman Carlos Chan were present during the ceremony.
Founding chairman Chen Zu Chang led the oath-taking of the new board members.
Ambassador Huang Xilian emphasized the longstanding and deep-rooted friendship between China and the Philippines. He highlighted the crucial role played by the Filipino-Chinese community in fostering the said relationship.
Huang said 2025 would mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the Philippines.
He expressed hope that the foundation would continue to embody the “three treasures” spirit of the Filipino-Chinese community and contribute to the promotion of bilateral friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
Shi Yong Chang, the newly-elected president of the Philippine Song Qing Ling Foundation, delivered a comprehensive report on the organization’s activities over the past two decades.
He said the foundation has worked tirelessly on numerous charitable initiatives focused on improving the lives of the less fortunate in the Philippines.
The initiatives include caring for the elderly, children, and marginalized communities, poverty alleviation programs, free medical clinics and distribution of medicines, nutritional support for underprivileged children, scholarships and educational grants for youth, promotion of hybrid rice farming, construction of rural school buildings, women’s livelihood training, Disaster relief efforts, Cultural exchange programs, including youth singing and performing arts exchanges between China and the Philippines.
One of the Foundation’s recent projects involve organizing a cultural exchange trip for 30 Philippine youth to Beijing and Fujian province in China, where they engaged in cultural exchanges with local Chinese youth.
A new initiative titled “2024 Philippine Youth Professional Skills Training” was launched in partnership with the Philippine Asia and Pacific College.
The project will provide professional training for 100 youth, aged 18-45, through online and in-person digital business seminars.
With its ongoing commitment to charity, education and cross-cultural exchange, the Philippine Song Qing Ling Foundation becomes a vital bridge in strengthening ties between the two nations.
It remains dedicated to creating positive change in the lives of Filipino communities through sustained outreach and support.
