The Center for Language Education and Cooperation (ELEC) of China’s Department of Education opened the “2024 International Chinese Teacher Professional Competency Standards Workshop” on Nov. 9, 2024 at the Philippine Academy of Sakya.
The seminar featured three guest speakers from China, and 141 Chinese educators from 30 Filipino-Chinese school participated in the event.
Wu Yong Yi, a professor at East China Normal University and an expert consultant for the China Chinese Education Foundation, shared his insights.
Yao Qian, a deputy professor at Chongqing University, brought his extensive experience in international Chinese teaching to the discussion.
Chen Yan, a lecturer at Fujian Normal University, spoke about the Chinese teaching program at the Confucius Institute in Angeles State University.
Philippine Chinese Education Research Center (PCERC) chairman Huang Duan Ming and Metro Manila Chinese Teachers Association president Xu Pu Hua also attended the workshop.
Xu underscored the importance of the seminar as a pivotal event for local Chinese education and encouraged participants to engage actively and prepare for the upcoming International Chinese Teachers Certificate exam.
PCERC chairman Huang announced that the China Internation Trust and Investment Corporation (CITIC) Foundation chairman Cai Zi Li would cover the exam fees for all participating teachers.
The sponsorship is part of the foundation’s ongoing support for the Philippine Chinese Teacher Professional Awards which aims to foster greater enthusiasm for professional development among educators.
