The Ayala Museum has brought its Doll Collection Traveling Exhibition to the Arte Luna Gallery in Paoay, Ilocos Norte.
In partnership with the province’s local government, the exhibition features intricately crafted dolls dressed in traditional Filipino attire, all carved by master woodcarver Mar Edjawan in 1974. The collection highlights the evolution of Filipino clothing across various regions and traditions, showcasing how attire has played a significant role in the country’s history.
Gracing the exhibition’s opening on Nov. 22 were Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc, Vice Governor Cecilia Araneta-Marcos, and Paoay Mayor Sheile Galano. Kenneth Esguerra, the collection’s curator, delivered a talk to elementary and university students about the dolls and their cultural significance.
The Doll Collection Traveling Exhibition will run at the Arte Luna Gallery until Jan. 31, 2025.
