Recognition has been given by the Asian Volleyball Confederation to the newly formed Philippine National Volleyball Federation, inc.
Officials of the PNVFI received the notice this week from the AVC, the governing body of the sport in Asia.
AVC president Rita Subowo wrote a letter of congratulations to newly elected PNVFI president Ramon “Tats” Suzara.
Subowo also raised the possibility of the AVC lending its cooperation with the PNVFI in staging international meets in the Philippines.
“I look forward to more cooperation between the PNVFI and the AVC in future endeavors,” wrote Subowo.
The PNVFI gained the nod of the Philippine Olympic Committee during its General Assembly meeting last week. All it needs now to get funding from the Philippine Sports Commission and function as the national governing body for the sports in the country is the blessing from the International Volleyball Federation.
The status of the PNVFI will be discussed during the FIVB Congress 2021, which will have a three-day virtual meeting from Friday until Sunday.
The FIVB decided to hold its gathering online “in light of the significant rise in COVID-19 cases and travel restrictions still in place around the world.”
In the past years, the AVC sanctioned the holding of the Asian Women’s Volleyball Championship and the Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship.
Two weeks ago, Suzara said this after he was named president of the national sports association that replaced the Larong Volleyball ng Pilipinas Inc. and the Philippine Volleyball Federation.
At least five commissions will be formed, making up the backbone of future undertakings of the PNVF.
Suzara, who got a total vote of 31, will lead on an interim basis until new polls are held again next year.
