Top-rating drama Magkaagaw has returned on GMA Network's afternoon block with recap episodes and some exciting news from its stars.
Before it took a break from airing due to the implementation of the enhanced community quarantine, Magkaagaw captivated the hearts of daytime drama viewers and hooked them instantaneously.
Seasoned screen stars Sheryl Cruz and Sunshine Dizon reunite in this intriguing drama that “harps on vengeance.” It also features the freshest team up of homegrown Kapuso talents Klea Pineda and Jeric Gonzales in their most daring roles yet.
As the widely-followed series returns on television, the cast members expressed their thoughts on the new way of doing shows brought about by the strict health protocols implemented by the government.
“For me, it’s not really a challenge. It’s more exciting for me going back to work with a different set of rules because we are already in the new normal due to the pandemic. We were well taken care of during our taping. They made sure we, including the production, were doing fine and safe. So, the guidelines followed were for the best of everyone,” Sheryl told Manila Standard Entertainment in a virtual interview.
“We had to follow certain protocols but then everybody was cooperative and they fully understood why these guidelines were in place. We’re actually getting used to this kind of set up, we are becoming more responsible whenever we interact with people on set or even with the people who are not part of the production,” she carried on.
For Sunshine, she doesn’t think that there will be a perfect “bubble” or a perfect production this new normal due to the adjustments everyone has to make. But it all boils down to how people, the stars, and the production team communicate with each other to maintain safety and ensure that the taping would finish on time.
“We all came home safely and ‘negative’ ang results,” she started. “I'm sure we all did our best na magawa namin ang dapat naming gawin. Everyone was so efficient.”
“I’m talking from the point of view of a producer. You need to hire efficient people because with limited numbers of people allowed on the set you really have to give your best foot forward. Before there were so many people during tapings, now we have to do double time and wear several hats to ensure that we would finish as fast as possible. Lock-in tapings really train us to be more efficient,” Sunshine added.
The actress also shared that she prefers lock-in tapings due to the fact that producers are forced to hire the “best of the best” and economically-wise, it has more positive results.
“Before lock-in tapings, there were so many unnecessary people on the set. Now, you will only see the people who are really needed in the production. With the actors, we are also trained to be more prepared, with the memorization and all because we are only allowed to work in certain time frame. So producers now hire brilliant people kasi hindi tayo pwedeng paulit ulit. It’s become a very productive environment for us.”
Driven by malevolence from a failed past love, Magkaagaw tells the story of a legal wife who eventually becomes the person she hated the most — a mistress.
A career-driven woman named Veron (Sheryl) was left by her husband Mario (Alfred Vargas) to be with another woman, Laura (Sunshine). What was supposed to be a new beginning for the two was short-lived as Veron’s revenge would lead to unfortunate circumstances.
Twenty-three years later, Laura’s daughter, Clarisse (Klea Pineda), lands a job as Veron’s assistant. As soon as the latter finds out about Clarisse and Laura’s filial relationship, she plots her revenge by engaging in a love affair with Jio (Jeric Gonzales) — her protégé’s husband.
Completing the stellar cast are: Polo Ravales, Dion Ignacio, Dennis Padilla, Lovely Abella, Isay Alvarez, Patricia Tumulak, and Joanna Marie Tan.
This original series, created by the GMA Drama group, is headed by the SVP for Entertainment Group Lilybeth G. Rasonable, VP for Drama Redgie A. Magno, AVP for Drama Cheryl Ching-Sy, Senior Program Manager Camille Hermoso-Hafezan, and Executive Producer Darling Pulido-Torres.
