The Department of Finance is discussing with the state-run Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) ways on how to improve the controversial agency’s actuarial systems and financial planning.
Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III said over the weekend while funding was a key component, improvements in PhilHealth’s financial planning and control and actuarial systems were fundamental to the achievement of the government’s goal of providing universal healthcare.
“These will help plug all leakages so as to allow the funds from members’ premiums and the taxpayers to be utilized properly,” Dominguez said.
He said a DoF team composed of an undersecretary, the National Treasurer and a deputy commissioner of the Insurance Commission had been working closely with PhilHealth since October 2019.
Dominguez also said he had already discussed the possible improvements last week with new PhilHealth chief Dante Gierran. He said another meeting was scheduled this week.
