Interior Secretary Eduardo Año on Monday said that the department had asked 97 local government units to explain why they failed to clear roads within their jurisdiction of obstructions.
Año issued the show cause order after the said LGUs failed to comply with a 2019 DILG memorandum ordering all LGUs to clear primary and secondary roads of obstruction with a 60-day deadline.
According to the DILG, a total of 6,682 primary and secondary roads nationwide have been cleared of all types of obstructions.
Año issued a new memorandum, this time, directing all barangay officials to clear tertiary roads in their respective areas.
In the new memorandum, Año directed the LGUs to continue the implementation of the road-clearing directive and ensure that their efforts to maintain cleared roads are sustained.
