The Free Legal Assistance Group (FLAG), the oldest human rights lawyers network in the Philippines, is set to launch its new book on Friday to celebrate its 50th anniversary.
The compilation titled “Frontliners for Human Rights” will feature cases that “highlight FLAG’s pivotal role in advancing human rights, consumer rights, national sovereignty, and labor law.”
“The book demonstrates how the organization’s legal arguments have contributed to the evolution of Philippine law, even in cases where a win was not secured,” FLAG said in a press release.
“However, the book goes beyond a compilation of FLAG’s legal cases in the past fifty years; it tells the stories of FLAG’s lawyers and their clients, and of their search for justice and a more just legal system,” it added.
The book launch will take place from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on September 26 at the University of the Philippines (UP) College of Law’s Malcolm Theater in Quezon City.
Additionally, FLAG’s regional chapters will hold their own book launches as follows:
- September 22 (2 p.m. to 5 p.m.): Ateneo de Davao University, Davao City
- September 24 (1 p.m. to 5 p.m.): CBA Hall, Fr. Saturnino Urios University, Butuan City
- September 24 (5:30 p.m.): Social Hall, University of Nueva Caceres, Naga City
- September 26 (1 p.m. 4 p.m.): Mallberry Suites, Cagayan de Oro City
- September 27 (2 p.m. to 5 p.m.): Verbist Hall, Saint Louis University, Baguio City
- September 27 (2 p.m. to 5 p.m.): Jones Auditorium, University of Cebu, Cebu City
