DOLE reminds employers of pay hike

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) reminded private employers in Metro Manila that the P50 daily minimum wage increase will be effective starting today.

In an advisory, the DOLE reminded employers to adjust the additional P50 increase to all minimum wage earners in the National Capital Region (NCR) , which will bring the wage rate from P645 to P695.

Earlier, the NCR Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board approved a wage increase of P50 in the region, raising the daily minimum wage from P645 to P695 for the non-agricultural sector, and from P608 to P658 for the agricultural sector, as well as for service and retail businesses with 15 or fewer employees, and manufacturing firms that typically employ fewer than ten workers.

With the updated rate, employees in non-agricultural sectors can expect a monthly net salary ranging from approximately P15,247 to P18,216, depending on whether they work a five-day or six-day week. This amount includes required social welfare benefits, which encompass the 13th month pay, service incentive leave, SSS, PhilHealth, and Pag-IBIG.

However, DOLE Regional Director Sara Mirasol said businesses affected by disasters, as well as those in the retail and service sectors with ten employees, are not subject to the wage increase.

She also said the employees may seek assistance from the DOLE should employers fail to comply with the new minimum wage.
