LTO suspends license of TNVS driver accused of rape

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) said on Friday it has suspended the driver’s license of a transportation network vehicle service (TNVS) driver who was accused of raping his passenger.

LTO chief Vigor Mendoza II said he has already informed Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon of the agency’s action. Dizon was angry upon learning of the incident.

“The instruction of Secretary Dizon is to make sure that this driver is punished if the pieces of evidence [are] strong based on the conduct of the investigation,” Mendoza said.

The LTO chief warned to revoke the license of the TNVS driver for violation of being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle.

He said the LTO would issue a show-cause order to give the driver the due process to explain why his license should not be revoked.

The accused driver is now under police custody and facing criminal charges.

The 90-day preventive suspension of the driver’s license is still after the conduct of investigation to determine whether or not the driver’s license should be revoked.

Authorities arrested the driver in Cainta, Rizal after receiving a complaint of rape filed by his passenger.

The alleged incident happened last Sunday at around 3 a.m. in southern Metro Manila when the victim fell asleep inside the vehicle.
