San Jose, Antique—Senator Loren Legarda and her younger brother Antique Rep. Antonio Agapito Legarda vowed to extend more support for their fellow Antiqueños as the latter filed for re-election Tuesday.
Rep. Legarda filed his Certificate of Candidacy (COC) for a second term at the satellite office of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) here. The Comelec opened Day 1 of the COC submission for those seeking political offices in the 2025 midterm elections.
He was accompanied by his sister Sen. Legarda. Also present to witness the filing were Vice Governor Edgar Denosta, members of the Provincial Board, and several mayors and vice mayors in the province.
In a press conference that followed, Sen. Legarda vowed to push for legislation that would create two separate districts in Antique next year. She said this would yield “more economic development programs” for the province.
According to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), poverty incidence dropped by 4.1 percent in Antique.
Rep. Legarda said he will continue the programs they started, but will expand them to include poverty reduction measures, disaster management, and support for micro-, small- and medium entrepreneurs, among others.
