PLDT Enterprise brought together industry leaders and technology partners to showcase the benefits of the solution during the IoT roadshow in Metro Manila as part of its commitment to explore the transformative potential of the Internet of Things (IoT) in the transportation industry.
PLDT Enterprise, in a statement, highlighted how its solution called Smart IOT, the first all-in-one IoT-enabled platform in the Philippines, could enhance operational efficiency, reduce costs and improve passenger experiences. Transport operators learned about the various applications of Smart IOT, such as vehicle and delivery tracking, payment systems, smart meters, and remote device control.
“IoT technology is at the forefront of our commitment to revolutionizing the transportation sector,” said Robert Jay Sumulong, Smart category head for IoT Solutions at PLDT Enterprise.
“The Smart IOT platform empowers transport operators with real-time data and actionable insights, enabling them to enhance operational efficiency and optimize costs,” he said.
The Smart IOT platform also allows users to manage thousands of devices in a single portal, offering full control, transparency and visibility. This capability helps businesses make data-driven decisions, maintain constant connectivity, and set automation rules for efficient operations.
Various technology partners, including Vectras and Filipay, demonstrated their IoT applications for the transportation industry.
Peter Jonas Figueroa, president and chief executive of Vectras, highlighted their GPS tracker and mobile CCTV solutions.
“Utilizing Smart’s robust 4G/LTE and 5G networks to provide comprehensive services for the transportation industry, I believe that in the next few years, this sector will make leaps and bounds in terms of innovation, growth, and development,” Figueroa said.
Janice Arino, chief executive of Filipay, discussed their automated fare collection system.
“Its impact on improving operational transparency and efficiency for public utility vehicles will be significant. Fare Collection is a vital concern for the transportation industry, and this kind of technology will go a long way into ensuring more accuracy and efficiency for the operators,” Arino said.
Dick Perez, customer relationship management head at PLDT Enterprise, stressed the significance of IoT in today’s digital landscape and the drive of PLDT Enterprise in supporting the growth and transformation of its partners.
“At PLDT Enterprise, our priority is building lasting relationships with our customers, such as bus operators, to understand their unique needs and challenges,” said Perez.
