The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), with support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), will launch the National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Strategy Roadmap 2.0 (NAISR 2.0) and the Center for AI Research (CAIR) on July 3, 2024.
NAISR 2.0 builds upon the 2021 roadmap, incorporating recent advancements like generative AI. It recalibrates strategies, addresses emerging themes on ethics and governance and aligns with the country’s science and technology-driven industrial strategy.
“We at the DTI commit to working towards a future where innovation thrives, businesses flourish, and the lives of Filipinos are transformed. These initiatives are indeed a testament to the efforts of the Marcos administration to support the growth of the AI industry and unlock the immense potential of the Philippines to become a national hub for AI development,” said DTI Secretary Alfredo Pascual.
He said the core mission of the roadmap is to harness AI’s potential to boost the economy and improve lives.
CAIR’s mission is to transform the Philippines into a hub for AI innovation and investment.
The DTI said that by creating AI solutions for regional challenges like sustainable agriculture, urban planning and disaster resilience, CAIR aims to position the Philippines as a leader in multiple AI application areas.
The launch marked the establishment of the first AI hub in the Philippines, housing pioneering AI experts who will spearhead CAIR’s goals.
NAISR 2.0 and CAIR present an opportunity for government, academia and industry to work together and ensure Filipinos benefit most from AI advancements.
The DTI said the initiatives align with the Tatak Pinoy Act, promoting innovation for economic diversification and industrial transformation.
