Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila closed its doors on July 1, 2024, after 48 years of operations.
The five-star hotel overlooking Manila Bay, located across the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City, announced that it ceased operations Monday.
Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila made a brief social media post to thank its patrons and announce its formal closure.
“Where moments were made magnifique. Where memories last. Your smiles and stories have left an indelible mark on our hearts. We hope these memories stay with you as fondly as they will with us. Sofitel Manila bids you adieu. Merci beaucoup, and à bientôt in new adventures,” the hotel said.
A part of France’s Accor Group, Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila sits on a property owned by the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS).
The hotel’s closure came just a year after GSIS and Philippine Plaza Holdings Inc. (PPHI), which operates Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila, signed a lease contract.
The 607-room hotel, designed by National Artists Leandro Locsin and Ildefonso Santos, opened to the public on September 26, 1976 to become one of the most luxurious hotels in the Philippines.
It was one of the 12 hotels built or designated by the late President Marcos Sr. to host the delegates of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank meetings in 1976.
It is also became famous for Spiral—its buffet that has elevated the dining experience in the Philippines.
