Janella Salvador receives backlash over declining to sing on ‘It’s Showtime’

Actress and singer Janella Salvador has found herself in the middle of controversy following a comment she made during her appearance in the noontime show “It’s Showtime.”

As part of the promotion of her upcoming film “Under Parallel Skies” and her 10th anniversary concert “Janella Reimagined,” Janella appeared in the show with her co-star Thai actor Win Metawin last April 2. While Janella was talking about her new song “Headtone,” host and fellow actress Kim Chiu asked her to sing it for the audience. However, Janella declined.

Medyo paos ako today. Kayo na lang,” said Janella, adding a promise that she would perform it some other time.

Pakinggan na lang namin sa Spotify,” replied Kim as the other hosts continued with their spiels.

Later on, host and comedian Vice Ganda made a joke during the “EXpecially For You” segment of the show referencing Janella’s words.

Medyo paos siya ngayon. Kayo na lang,” said Vice.

The interaction has led many of Kim’s fans to express their disappointment over Janella’s words, saying that she was rude. Others believed that Vice’s joke was meant to throw shade against the actress, which fueled the discussion further. This caused Janella to become one of the trending topics on X as hateful insults were directed at her.

Janella’s fans defended her against the hate by having “Janella get behind me” trend on X as they shared positive things about the actress. Many of them also called for Vice to apologize to her.

As of writing, Janella, Kim, and Vice have not made any statements regarding the issue.
