President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. recently signed four new laws renaming circumferential and bypass roads, a bridge, and a national highway in various areas in the country, including one named after the late diplomat and businessman Eduardo “Danding” Cojuangco, Jr.
The Chief Executive signed last March 21 Republic Act No. 11988, renaming the Urdaneta City Bypass Road to “Ambassador Eduardo ‘Danding’ M. Cojuangco Jr. Avenue.” This covers the villages of Nancayasan, Santo Domingo, Santa Lucia, Camantiles, and Anonas in Urdaneta City, Pangasinan.
In a four-page Republic Act No. 11987, President Marcos also renamed the Bohol Island Circumferential Road as “The President Carlos P. Garcia Circumferential Road,” after the former president, who was born in the province.
This circumferential road passes through Brgy. Poblacion III, towards north of Tagbilaran City and returns to the same barangay from the eastern side of the city.
The President also signed into law Republic Act 11989, renaming the Tambacan Bridge to “Mariano Lluch Badelles, Sr. Bridge,” the politician who represented the first district of Lanao del Norte. This road traverses the Iligan River in Barangay Tambacan, Iligan City in the Northern Mindanao Region.
Mr. Marcos also signed into law Republic Act 11990, naming a national highway as “Speaker Arnulfo ‘Noli’ Fuentebella Highway.” Fuentebella was from Camarines Sur who led the House of Representatives from 2000 to 2001.
The highway stretches from the village of San Juan Bautista, traversing through Barangays Tagongtong, Abucayan, Hiwacloy, Digidigon, Balaynan and Payatan in the Municipality of Goa.
Also included in the national highway are Barangays Lupi, Tierra Nevada, Binalay, Camagong, Salvacion, San Roque, San Ramon, Sagrada, La Medella, Magsaysay and San Vicente in the Municipality of Tinambac up to Brgy. Nalayahan in Siruma, Camarines Sur.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is mandated to issue the necessary rules, orders and circulars to implement the provisions of all four newly signed laws within 60 days from its effectivity.
Meanwhile, President Marcos also has signed into law Republic Act No. 11991, re-numbering Cebu’s first, second, third and fourth district engineering offices, and Republic Act No. 11992, which creates a district engineering office in the Second District of Southern Leyte.
In a three-page RA 11991, President Marcos re-numbered the Cebu district engineering offices “to conform and correspond, respectively, with the numbering of the legislative districts in the province.
The President also signed into law RA 11992, creating a district engineering office of the DPWH in the Municipality of Sogod, Second District of Southern Leyte to be referred to as the “Southern Leyte Second District Engineering Office.”
The “Southern Leyte Second District Engineering Office” will serve the Municipalities of Anahawan, Hinunangan, Hinundayan, Libagon, Liloan, Pintuyan, St. Bernard, San Francisco, San Juan, San Ricardo, Silago and Sogod.
