The art of meal prepping in the journey to a healthier lifestyle

Many young professionals have been gearing towards a healthier lifestyle amid their busy schedules. One such way to do so is through practical habits such as meal prepping, which is preparing entire meals or dishes ahead of schedule.

TELUS International Philippines (TIP), a digital customer experience innovator, recently hosted a cooking demo and workshop that aimed to promote a healthier lifestyle for its team members.

Senior Manager for Communication Pia Gajasan noted in her opening remarks that a recent study by the Social Weather Stations (SWS), a survey research institute, found that more than 50 percent of Filipinos said that one of the things that they were most grateful for in 2023 was their health.

“Coming from, ano, several years of pandemic, diba… talagang health is top of mind for a lot of our key members. And for us, it’s also something that’s very important, right? Because you have to make sure that your key members are healthy,” said Gajasan.

“Preparing balanced and nutrition-specific meals for themselves and their loved ones can be a game-changer for customer experience professionals who are seeking healthier meals and sustained productivity,” said Beatrix Mercado, a registered nutritionist and dietitian during the event.

The event also featured Registered Nutritionist, Dietitian, and Chef Fia Batua-Mambuay from Doctor Diet Manila, a meal plan delivery service, who provided a hands-on demonstration regarding the preparation for nutritious “baon” options such as her own recipe of Peri-Peri Chicken.

Participants were given their own stations to work on along with pre-prepared ingredients that they needed for cooking the dish. Throughout the demonstration, Batua-Mambuay and Mercado spoke about certain facts when it comes to food and nutrition such as the importance of balance and portioning in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

“When it comes to nutrition, very important yung control and moderation,” said Mercado.

“We’re trying to control yung sodium content ng ating kanin,” agreed Batua-Mambuay, further noting how there are many people who fail to think about the amount of sodium in their food.

“We have to be mindful [of] all the herbs and spices, no? And even, especially salt. Anything [like] sauces na may sodium,” Batua-Mambuay added.

The meal prep event was held at The Cookery Place in BGC last Feb. 5.
