A CONGRESSMAN pushes enhanced healthcare services as he expressed full support for the government’s plan to build more specialty hospitals in the regions.

“We thank the President for his commitment to bringing healthcare closer to the people and we laud his lofty goal of establishing an additional 179 specialty centers by 2028,” said Rep. Ray Reyes of AnaKalusugan party-list.

“Being one of the first to pr mote the establishment of specialty hospitals in rural areas, the people can count on our full and continuous support in this program,” Reyes said.

Reyes was one of the initial proponents of building Regional Specialty Centers.

He filed House Bill 3134 which was enacted August last year as Republic Act 11959 or Regional Specialty Centers Act.

According to Reyes, as of last December, 131 functional specialty centers have been built through the Regional Specialty Centers Act.

“This is a perfect example of a law working for the people. By bringing these specialty centers closer to our people, we reassure our kababayans that wherever you are in the Philippines, you can have access to affordable, specialized care,” Reyes said.

The lawmaker, who is the vice chairman of the House Committee on Health, also said that for this year, P11.12 billion has been earmarked to build additional specialty centers in the regions.

“We need to make specialized medical services accessible to people in the provinces and unburden them from the unnecessary travel and other expenses,” he said.

“With the help of this law, we hope that our people will no longer have to travel far to access their health needs,” Reyes stressed.
