PRESIDENT Marcos described the developments in 2023 as “the year of structural changes,” highlighting the administration’s efforts to reshape the structure of different agencies by appointing the most qualified individuals for each position.

During the Kapihan with the Media in Tokyo, Japan, Mr. Marcos emphasized that implementing structural changes is crucial to resolving the consequences of the pandemic.

“This 2023 was really the year of structural changes,” the President said when asked to assess his performance for 2023, and what the goals of his administration are for the coming year.

“So, those structural changes were necessary because we have to remodel, or re-adjust rather, our—for example our fiscal policy, even our monetary policy, our spending policy, so that we are slowly moving – or not so slowly, so, we’re moving away from the COVID economy,” he added.

Mr. Marcos emphasized that the structural changes implemented in 2023 would have a more significant impact in 2024.

Looking ahead to 2024, the President affirmed that the administration’s goal remains unchanged—to continue the modernization of the government.

“Medyo obsolete na ‘yung ibang structure natin sa gobyerno (Some of our government’s structures are quite obsolete).. That we continue to modernize, we continue to be responsive to the new economy, that we position ourselves properly,” the Chief Executive said.

Mr. Marcos acknowledged that despite the government moving in the “right direction”, it is still a little “too slow” for his liking, adding that the administration will continue pushing toward its goal of reaching the effects of its changes.
