The Department of Agriculture began a series of random market visits around Metro Manila on Friday to ensure stable prices and supply of farm goods for the coming Christmas season.

DA undersecretary for operations Roger Navarro said there is sufficient supply of meat, poultry, vegetables and fish in Mega Q-Mart and Kamuning Public Market in Quezon City, two of the wet markets visited during the first day of monitoring.

Apart from market visits, he said the DA will discuss with other agencies that comprise the National Price Coordinating Council what interventions could done to ensure prices remain stable and that imported goods do not flood the market and undermine local producers.

Among the Agriculture officials who conducted the random check were assistant secretary for operations Arnel De Mesa, assistant secretary for consumer affairs Genevieve Velicaria-Guevarra, and agribusiness and marketing assistance service director Junibert De Sagun.

Representatives from the Department of Trade and Industry’s (DTI)-Fair Trade Enforcement Bureau (FTEB) also joined the DA team.
