Transportation Undersecretary for Railways Cesar Chavez is set to join the communications team of Malacañang.

A well-placed source said Chavez will hold a Cabinet-level portfolio, but declined to identify the position.

The source said Chavez has already started attending workshops and meetings at the Palace.

In October last year, Chavez was among those considered for the position of Press Secretary after Trixie Cruz-Angeles stepped down for health reasons. In January, President Marcos issued an administrative order renaming the Office of the Press Secretary to the Presidential Communications Office.

The PCO, tasked with “crafting, formulating, developing, enhancing, and coordinating the messaging system of the Executive branch and the Office of the President,” is headed by Secretary Cheloy Garafil.

The source said Chavez will work closely with Garafil.

Chavez was a former station manager of dzRH.

He also served as deputy administrator of the Light Rail Transit Authority during the term of former President Rodrigo Duterte.

Before working in the transport sector, Chavez was Assistant General Manager for Planning of the Metro Manila Development Authority.

He also served as chairperson of the National Youth Commission.
