Batangas commemorates Elderly Filipino Week

The province of Batangas recently held the culminating activity of the Elderly Filipino Week Celebration last Oct. 27 at the Provincial Auditorium, Capitol Compound.

It follows the theme, “Honoring the Invaluable Legacy of Filipino Senior Citizens,” and was conducted under the leadership of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) and in collaboration with the Provincial Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (POSCA).

As a member of the elderly population in the province, Governor Hermilando Mandanas happily joined in the laid-out activities. He also shared a short message that discussed the invaluable contribution of senior citizens in shaping the community.

Meanwhile, there was a dance competition participated in by different districts where the town of Taysan was declared the champion. Following in ranking was San Pascual in second place and Nasugbu in third place. The cities of Lipa, Batangas, and Tanauan received consolation prizes.

The Integrated Philippine Association of Optometrists (IPAO) – Batangas Chapter delivered free eye check-ups so that seniors with vision problems can be cared for and given the right medicine.

The retired Senior Citizen Association (SCA) Presidents of different towns also received recognition for their sincere service.

Provincial Administrator Wilfredo Racelis, Acting Vice Governor and 5th District Senior Board Member (BM) Maria Claudette Ambida, 5th District BM Arthur Blanco, 4th District BM JP Gozos, 3rd District BM and Chairperson of the Committee on Senior Citizen Fred Corona, Provincial Federation of Senior Citizen President Elena T. Anastacio, POSCA Head Francisca C. Mandanas, and Margarito D. Hernandez, who served as the event’s chief speaker, were also present.
