Netizens express discontent over MTRCB’s denial of ‘It’s Showtime’ appeal

Netizens have expressed discontent over the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) denying the Motion for Reconsideration (MR) of the noontime variety show “It’s Showtime” of ABS-CBN against its 12-day suspension.
They noted that out of 30 MTRCB board members, 27 voted to deny the motion for reconsideration by “It’s Showtime,” retaining its earlier decision to suspend the show starting October 14.

The show’s hosts hogged the headlines for reportedly acting inappropriately and indecently in the presence of children in one of its segments.
According to the MTRCB, the hosts’ acts were in violation of Section 3 (c) of Presidential Decree No. 1986 and its Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR).
ABS-CBN later decided not to appeal the suspension meted on “It’s Showtime,” the media giant said Friday night in a statement.
“Pinag-iinitan talaga ang Showtime (Showtime is really being subjected to a hate drive),” a netizen said on his Facebook post.
In the “Batang Isip” segment of Showtime last July 25, hosts Vice Ganda and real-life partner Ion Perez were seen eating cake icing off their fingers, which for some viewers was a portrayal of an indecent act.
However, It’s Showtime maintained there was no violation of pertinent laws and they immediately filed for MR after the MTRCB suspended the show for 12 airing days.
“Lagi hinahanapan ng butas (They were always trying to look for its fault,)” another netizen posted on Facebook.
“Mapapa-isip ka nalang talaga (You may just ponder about it),” another fan of the show posted.
“It’s Showtime” had 15 days to appeal the MTRCB decision to Malacanang until ABS-CBN decided not to push through with it.
Despite the setback, the show’s producers assured their loyal viewers they could still watch the on ABS-CBN’s other platforms, as the MTRCB’s decision is not yet final and executory.
“It’s Showtime” also expressed its gratitude for their followers’ unwavering love and support.
