The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority is set to receive 20 motorcycle units, raincoats, and tents donated by ride-hailing firm Angkas in support of the agency’s Motorcycle Riding Academy.
In a courtesy call on MMDA officials led by Chairman Don Artes and General Manager Usec. Procopio Lipana, Angkas representatives Jauro Castro and Dorris Jimenez said the firm will provide the motorcycles and the materials to be used for the academy, which is expected to open in September.
The firm will also assist in the Motorcycle Safety Training Course module in the academy. It will provide beginners and experienced riders with proper training and basic knowledge of driving a motorcycle.
Castro and Jimenez said the lessons to be learned by riders at the Academy are a big help in the midst of many accidents involving motorcycles.
The MMDA also received 20 bicycles, bicycle helmets, and bicycle racks from the Baclaran Metro Link Bus Corporation and Decathlon Philippines in support of the MMDA Bike Shelters Project.
The bike shelters will be placed at bus stops.
Artes thanked Angkas, Baclaran Metro Link Bus Corporation, and Decathlon Philippines for their donations.
“I received not just one but two good news stories from our private sector partners. More than the donation, I am grateful for your belief and support in the agency’s projects for the welfare of Metro Manila residents,” he said.
The Motorcycle Riding Academy will provide riders with formal training on both theoretical and practical aspects of motorcycle riding, as well as basic emergency response training. The Academy aims to provide riders with basic training on handling motorcycles and following road and traffic rules.
Meanwhile, MMDA Traffic Discipline Office Director for Enforcement Victor Nuez plans to improve the motorcycle and bicycle repair stations along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue under the MMDA Bike Lane Program Office.
