A favorite self-care routine of mine is having my nails done, well, aside from my coffee moments and massages. When I see that my nails are healthy and clean, I feel like somehow my life is in order even though sometimes it isn’t.
But self-care is self-care and I love giving myself a little pampering here and there. I don’t know if Bettina Bernabe, who I have known for many years in the PR and media industry, knew this but I got so excited when she invited me to try out their family’s newly opened nail spa in Kapitolyo, managed by her sister Taliza.
I walked into Bhava Nail Spa, and no kidding, I was greeted with a serene and calming ambiance that immediately put me in a reset mode. The first thing I noticed was the interior design. Unlike other nail spas where bright colors dominate the scene, the owners of Bhava opted for neutrals with just a little pop of blue for its walls. The place was spacious and devoid of clutter.
Minimalist but not boring. Near the counter by the entrance is a display of merchandise that speaks of wellness and self-care – scented soy candles and charmeuse silk scarves from Pause Lifestyle, a clothing brand that advocates mindful pursuits for its wearers. Bhava is a place that welcomes everyone, and as I have experienced it offers excellent nail care service through its nail experts who lovingly do their job well and thoroughly.
Taliza and I chatted for a bit and she shared with me the concept of Bhava. I asked who is Bhava Nail Spa for.
“Our clients are people from all walks of life. We have a lot of male clients who come here for their nail care because they feel comfortable. Stay-at-home moms take a short break here before going back to their work, and many office workers call in to drop by at the end of the day to squeeze in a little self-care. Bhava is for working professionals, corporate mavens, creative entrepreneurs, stay-at-home parents, active hobbyists or athletes, travel and lifestyle curators, beauty and wellness enthusiasts of all ages and genders, and more.” Taliza said.
“Bhava is a Sanskrit word that means ‘being or becoming, and also habitual or emotional tendencies,’ which to us is associated with self-care and wellness, something we advocate for. Taking time to do things for ourselves that help us live a more fulfilled and less stressful life has become one of our top priorities. This includes taking care of ourselves better in all aspects so that we can show up for ourselves and others looking and feeling our best. This perspective has breathed life into Bhava Wellness’ first venture into the self-care space: Bhava Nail Spa,” she explained.
“Self-care through proper nail, hands, and feet care promotes overall wellness in its small ways because it makes the parts of you that you use the most look good, in turn making you feel better and more confident to do the things you’re meant to,” she adds.
And indeed, there is a seat at Bhava Nail Spa for individuals looking for a place that allows them to take a moment just for themselves, to relax and re-energize the parts of themselves that need pampering the most but aren’t always top of mind – such as our hands that allow us to do what we love the most, and our feet that get us to where we want to be.
According to the two sisters, Bhava aims to provide relaxing and re-energizing pampering services that allow you to become more of yourself, but better.
For its initial menu of services, it wanted to focus more on nail care with flair. Besides providing massages for each type of service, paraffin wax, callous removal, and fortified nail care treatments to strengthen and beautify nails, hands, and feet, they also offer organic regular and gel nail polish in a variety of colors to suit different moods or personalities.
From Basic Nail Care to the Signature Spa Experience – each of their service offers includes a soothing massage. Individual lounge chairs with side curtains are there to give privacy while getting your treatment of choice. Comfortable express chairs are also available for those who opt to get their quick nail care fix. Aside from these, they also offer well-curated Spa Parties at Bhava that allow clients to enjoy the entire space for an intimate get-together.
“To be, to become, to exist. A moment of rebirth. This is your space to feel anew,” Taliza said.
