Philippine stocks started the week on a strong note, sending the benchmark index past the 6,500-point level.
The Philippine Stock Exchange index surged by 129.54 points, or 2.03 percent, to close at 6,523.09 on Monday, halting a five-day slump.
Maybank Securities Philippines head of retail equites Michael Macainag said the volume picked up in the afternoon trading as funds took advantage of low liquidity to push the market higher. All major sub-indices ended in the green.
